I have had this unit for 5 years. I bought it because my basement smelled so musty, all you could smell as soon as you walked into my house was the basement. I was terribly embarassed by the smell and concerned about the health effects. The basement had been damp for the first few years after we built it, and I was concerned the smell was toxic mold. I spent 100's of dollars on mold treatments and preventatives, and expensive one-room air purifiers and Ionizers without any help. I knew the mold spores were in the air, not only on the surfaces and was being spread throughout our home when the furnace or A/C ran. The kid's bedrooms in the basement were unhealthy to sleep in, and even their clothes and bedding smelled like the basement. I installed the unit the day before we left for a 2 day visit out of town. I turned the furnace fan on and locked up the house. When we returned, we were amazed. Usually we come home to a house that smells worse from being closed up. We opened the door and NO SMELL, we walked into the basement, and the whole basement had no smell at all.
