This seems to be a well made filter and my only gripe is that is not easier to fit into the return. After a bit of shifting and stuffing, I was able to get it to fit. The inner frame fits fine, it's just the excess material around the frame that makes it a bit tricky to fit and you can't really cut too much off the edges due to a sewn seem. It's not a huge deal but it's definitely not like the cardboard framed filters. I like this type better actually since there is not any filter area covered by cardboard.The directions in the package say to place the dark side down but if you do that, then the carbon comes in direct contact with debris which will deactivate the carbon and prevent it from working as it should. So, I decided to put the white side down so that it would catch the particulate matter and act as a prefilter to the carbon. I hope I did the right thing.
(If you read the product description it says that the white part is to trap dander, pollen, etc... so it only made sense that you would place it down as the first layer. )
