GT3000 Professional-Grade High-Volume Ionic Air Purifier Review
Okay I admit it. I am slightly obsessed by air purifiers. I have owned many different models and tried virtually every technology. And so, when I recently learned about the GT3000, and looked into the product specifications, compared it with the other ones on the market, and did some research on GreenTech Environmental, the company that manufactures it, I knew I had to have one.My obsession with air purifiers began when, as an Architecture student, I was horrified to realize how many toxic chemicals are used to manufacture the building materials used to construct our homes and offices, and the furnishings and textiles we fill them with. Add to this the chemical cleaning agents we use in our homes and offices, the pesticides most of us use regularly, and the lack of natural air flow that is a by-product of new insulation standards, and year-round dependence on HVAC systems, and you have a recipe for disaster.
I purchased the GT3000 because I am a believer in ionization technology as a remedy to indoor air pollution, and also a proponent of ozone when used responsibly and only when dictated by unusual circumstances (e.g., if you have just had your interior walls painted of your floors stained, and need to get rid of the high levels of toxic chemicals in the air immediately). I have actually read the series of laboratory test results performed at the University of Cincinnati that prove that more than 99% of all airborne and surface contaminants are removed by ionization and, while I can't know for sure if my air is completely pure, I do know that, since I began using the GT3000, I feel much better, have more energy, no more headaches, rarely get sick, sleep better and my contact lenses no longer bother me when I am at home. What I do know for sure is that the air in my home always smells wonderful. Cooking odors, the occasional cigar my husband enjoys after a special dinner, the general mustiness of an enclosed space where opening the windows and letting fresh air in is a long-forgotten delight--all of these have absolutely no effect on the constant freshness of the air in my house. And it covers the entire house with only one unit.
The GT3000 has a number of features that, in my opinion, make it superior to the other models available on the market today for residential use that use a similar technology to combat indoor air pollution. First of all, it is better-constructed and has more high-quality components than any other air purifier I have ever used. Although we have not tried them, the GT3000 has an assortment of optional heavy-duty filters you can order that make it suitable for use in bars and restaurants or non-residential installations. I also like the remote control, and the way you can dim or completely turn off the lights on the front of the GT3000 using the "Sleep Mode" on the remote. I have never seen this feature on any other air purifier, and I really like it a lot.
Most important, the ozone-producing function can be completely turned off and is truly an optional component. In my view, ozone is like an antibiotic for the air in our homes. We should only use it when absolutely necessary--just as when our bodies are under attack by one of the new and more virulent strains of super-germs that nature never intended them to be able to fight on their own. When we have exposure to toxic chemicals in our indoor environment, or bacteria, it is the same thing: we need to eliminate these toxins or risk serious health consequences. For example, whenever my exterminator or termite man has been here, I put my GT3000 on the "Away Mode" (ozone) setting and leave the house for a few hours to clean out all of the harmful contaminants. The "Away Mode" on the GT3000 has a timer built-in, so you can set for 2, 4, 6, or 8 hours, and when you return home it will have resumed normal, non-ozone operation, and the toxins will have been completely neutralized and eliminated. It is a really good feeling to know that my family is not being exposed to anything in the air we breathe in our home that might compromise our health.
Aesthetically, this is one gorgeous piece of equipment. Sleek and quiet, it is the only air purifier I have ever owned that I am actually proud to display in my home. The GT3000 has no fake wood or clunky exterior housing that makes you want to hide it away where nobody will see it. In fact, it looks like a high-tech electronic device that you might see in a sound studio or home theatre. Best of all, in my opinion, is the glowing emerald-green light that illuminates the buttons on the front of the GT3000, which reminds me of the instrument panel on a Ferrari or Maserati.
In the final analysis, I think the GT3000 has established a new, higher standard in home air purification devices, and outperforms all the others--hands down.
